Gillian’s association with Solomons goes right back into the mid-1990s when she and Paul worked at competing firms in Christchurch, but nevertheless happily exchanged ideas and tools to enhance their client work. After many years working at a senior level as a solicitor specialising in the fast-growing area of elder law, Gillian founded her own specialist practice in 2009. Now, after 36 years as a solicitor and with a strong personal client following, she is happy to continue looking after them as a consultant of Solomons, secure in the knowledge that Paul and his team will provide the backup that she needs.
Gillian is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and a fully accredited member of Solicitors for the Elderly. She holds the STEP Advanced Diploma on Advising Vulnerable Clients, with distinction.
Area of Expertise
Gillian is known for the personal service she offers, frequently seeing clients and their families out of hours and going the extra mile to look after them in times of crisis. She has a plain English style and a talent for getting to grips with a complex situation and giving the essential advice in words her clients can understand. She works from her home office, where clients have direct access to her by telephone and visits clients in their own homes as a matter of course.
Amongst her specialist areas of expertise are
- preparation of Wills and powers of attorney
- administration of estates
- creation and administration of trusts
- applications to the Court of Protection
- general advice on legal rights within the social care system, including asset protection
- inheritance tax
In my personal time
Gillian’s many spare time interests include sailing, gardening, singing and acting and she seems to be unable to avoid getting drawn into the management aspects of these supposedly leisure activities! She has two grown-up children with families of their own and loves spending time with them and she does her best to spend several weeks each year on the English canals on her shared-ownership narrowboat.
